All of our programs are based on the three keys to teaching science and no matter which series you choose, you'll cover the necessary information over the years. Here are several articles on what science looked like in our house over the years:

The Typical Progression

Here are the typical ages for our different programs. That said, you do not have to go in this order. You can begin at any point, though we do recommend that once you begin the Sassafras Science series, you keep using the novels in order for the sake of the storyline.

The Classical Science Series

• K: Intro to Science
• 1st: Biology for the Grammar Stage
• 2nd: Earth Science & Astronomy for the Grammar Stage
• 3rd: Chemistry for the Grammar Stage
• 4th: Physics for the Grammar Stage
• 5th: Biology for the Logic Stage
• 6th: Earth Science & Astronomy for the Logic Stage
• 7th: Chemistry for the Logic Stage
• 8th: Physics for the Logic Stage

The Sassafras Science Series 

• Pre-Journey: Summer's Lab (Only if you want to begin in kindergarten.)
• Year 1: The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 1: Zoology and The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 2: Anatomy
• Year 2: The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 3: Botany and The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 4: Earth Science
• Year 3: The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 5: Geology and The Sassafras Science Adventures Volume 6: Astronomy

• Year C (Includes units on Living World, Invertebrates, Planet Earth, Periodic Table, Force, Motion, plus a unit on Marie Curie)

Preschool (3 to 6 years old)

Are you looking for a homeschool science program to use with 3- to 6-year-old students in preschool or kindergarten? 

If you want your youngest student to have their own science, we recommend...

• Science Chunks: Colors Unit (3 to 4 yo) - This program weaves science into a seven-week unit on colors
• Intro to Science (5 to 6 yo) - This program introduces the world of science through 6 six-week long units.
• Summer's Lab (5 to 6 yo) - This program explores the basics of science through 8 four-week long units.

If you want your preschooler to work with your older student(s), we recommend choosing the most appropriate program for your older student(s) and then using the tips found in the teacher guide to scale the writing back for your preschooler.

Elementary Years (6 to 10 years old)

Are you looking for a homeschool science program to use with 6- to 10-year-old students in 1^st through 5^th grades? Here is what we recommend.

• Classical Science (Grammar Stage programs) - The straightforward, easy to use plans and customized student workbooks of our Classical Science series deliver the tools you need to teach homeschool science. Each of these programs explores one discipline of science for a full year through the use of weekly scientific demonstrations, readings from visually appealing children’s encyclopedias, and notebooking with customized student workbooks. This option will provide you with a full year of plans for homeschool science.
  
• Sassafras Science - The Sassafras twins are zipping into homes around the world to deliver a living books education in the sciences. Read the novel alone or add in the activity guide and logbook for a complete homeschool science curriculum. This option will deliver a semester of adventure-filled homeschool science.
• Science Chunks - These digital unit studies provide the tools you need to introduce science in bite-sized chunks. The easy-to-use plans and attractive lapbook and notebook templates will help you to create a fantastic learning opportunity with minimal effort! This option will allow you to pick and choose what your students will study throughout the year.

Middle Years (10 to 14 years old)

Are you looking for a homeschool science program to use with 10- to 13-year-old students in 5^th through 8^th grades?Here is what we recommend.

• Classical Science (Logic Stage programs) — The straightforward, easy to use plans and customized student workbooks of our Classical Science series deliver the tools you need to teach homeschool science. Each of these programs explores one discipline of science for a full year through the use of weekly experiments, readings from visually appealing children’s encyclopedias, vocabulary, sketches and so much more. This option will foster independence in your middles school student while providing you with a full year of plans for homeschool science.
  
• Sassafras Science - The Sassafras twins are zipping into homes around the world to deliver a living books education in the sciences. Read the novel alone or add in the activity guide and logbook for a complete homeschool science curriculum. This option will deliver a semester of adventure-filled homeschool science. The Sassafras Science series is appropriate to use through 6th grade, but after that, you will need to add in a bit more for your students.
• Science Chunks - These digital unit studies provide the tools you need to introduce science in bite-sized chunks. The easy-to-use plans and attractive lapbook and notebook templates will help you to create a fantastic learning opportunity with minimal effort! High School Years (14 to 18 years old)

Are you looking for a homeschool science program to use with a 14- to 18-year-old students in 9^th through 12^th grades? Here is what we recommend.

• The High School Series — This series is no longer being updated due to the lack of easy-to-use online labs. You can still download the guides for free. 
  

Multiple Ages (Ranging from 5 to 13 years old)

Are you looking for a homeschool science program to use with multiple ages/grades? Watch the short 5-minute video below to see if combining for science is a good idea for your homeschool.

If your students are close in age and you are wanting to keep them all in the same program, we recommend...

• Sassafras Science - The Sassafras twins are zipping into homes around the world to deliver a living books education in the sciences. Read the novel alone or add in the activity guide and logbook for a complete homeschool science curriculum. This series is designed specifically for use with multiple ages, so you can pick and choose the appropriate assignments for each of your students.
• Science Chunks - These digital unit studies provide the tools you need to introduce science in bite-sized chunks. The easy-to-use plans and attractive lapbook and notebook templates will help you to create a fantastic learning opportunity with minimal effort! This option will allow you to pick and choose what your students will study throughout the year. The Science Chunks series is also appropriate to use through 6th grade, but after that, you will need to add in a bit more for your students.

If you don’t mind using multiple programs or if you have an age gap of 3 or more years between your students, we recommend...

• Classical Science - You can do this by placing your older student in one of the logic stage programs, while the younger students use the corresponding grammar stage books. For instance, if you have a first, second, and fifth grader, your older student could work through Biology for the Logic Stage with some independence, while you lead the younger two through Biology for the Grammar Stage. The topics won't line up perfectly, but there are suggestions in the front of each of our logic stage guides for lining the two programs up.
